A hat-trick from Ryan Turner helped Barnstaple Town to a 5-3 victory against Almondsbury UWE in the Toolstation Western League First Division.
Will Nicholls and Josh Phillips added for Barny as their unbeaten run extends to 18 games in the league, although they were forced to work hard for all three points.
The away side took the lead after four minutes as Steven Fitzpatrick’s corner was fumbled directly into the net by goalkeeper Ryan Draper.
It was an unusually jittery start for Town in the opening spell as Almondsbury bypassed the midfield easily and stretched the defence on the counter.
After 15 minutes, however, Turner poked home to make it 1-1 as he pounced on Phillips’s header.
The game suddenly changed momentum half an hour in as Phillips rose highest from a corner to make it 2-1 against the run of play.
Barnstaple capitalised on the away side’s sudden vulnerability and made it 3-1 seven minutes later as Nicholls headed home from a goalmouth scramble.
Town didn’t stop there and straight from Almondsbury’s kick-off Jack Jenkins picked up the ball in a dangerous area and threaded through Turner to make it 4-1 as he netted his second of the game.
Before the half was up Daniel Lane blasted a volley in from a corner to make it 4-2 and gave his side a speck of hope for the second half.
Those hopes were soon dashed on 47 minutes as Turner completed his hat-trick with a neat touch and clean strike from inside the box.
Barnstaple played out the rest of the match looking more comfortable and quashed Almondsbury’s counter-attacks with ease.
The sting, however, was out of their tail as they looked to settle with a three-goal cushion and from the final kick of the game Toby Waterman made it 5-3 when he found room in the box.
