BARNSTAPLE Town failed to score for only the third time in the Toolstation Western League this season as they were held to a goalless draw at Cheddar tonight.
Barum had won 5-1 in the home meeting with the Somerset side in August but, aside from a Ryan Turner goal that was disallowed for offside, they were unable to break them down on their own ground.
In a game of few chances, Ross Jones impressed for Barnstaple at left-back but manager Barry Yeo felt his side had dropped below their usual level.
“The standards they set themselves are a hell of a lot higher than they were tonight,” said Yeo. “It was a really disappointing performance but we got a point and a clean sheet.”
Despite missing centre-back James Mayne, whose partner is due to give birth to their second child, Barnstaple shut out the opposition for the third match running.
They remain unbeaten in 27 games and are have moved to within three points of First Division leaders Welton Rovers with a game in hand.
Barnstaple are at home to Calne Town on Saturday.
