BARNSTAPLE Town overcame Wellington 2-0 in the Les Phillips Cup quarter-final while taking their clean sheet record up to seven games.
Liam Gregory provided two assists, firing in corners for Aaron Harper-Penman and Lee Francis to guide home, while Welllington were reduced to 10-men as they had a player dismissed for two yellow cards.
Although Town’s local rivals came into the game on an unbeaten seven-game run they were quickly forced to play under the dictatorship of Barnstaple’s midfield and defended deep in their own half.
Harper-Peman powered home a header, his ninth of the season, while Wellington had their man sent off five minutes later.
Jed Harper-Peman rattled the bar In Town’s best chance before the close of the half while Jake Vine was forced into several good saves for Wellington.
Goalkeeper Jimmi Thorne had little to do in the second half as Barnstaple continued to press for the second before Lee Francis netted from another Gregory corner.
Barnstaple will travel to Toolstation Western League Premier Division side Hallen in the semi-final of the Cup after they won 2-1 against Cadbury Heath.
