BARNSTAPLE Town drew 0-0 with Welton Rovers in the Toolstation Western League First Division, taking their clean sheet record to 11 consecutive games.
The sides cancelled each other out in the first half before Town dominated the second period without applying a match-winning finish.
Welton’s Ryan Allen threatened early on as his strength and aerial ability challenged centre-backs Aaron Harper-Penman and James Mayne.
The visitors almost poked home the opener from a corner but Liam Gregory was on hand to clear the ball from danger after 17 minutes.
Lee Francis started to stamp his authority with two excellent slide tackles in the centre of midfield as Town upped their game before half-time and Dave Pearse almost tucked in from Steve Holland’s cross.
Barnstaple dominated in the second period as Holland and Gregory pushed forward in their wing-back roles.
Jack Jenkins flashed one chance over the bar and Ryan Turner, who joined the game from the bench 57 minutes in, had a glorious opportunity to win it 20 minutes later. The striker raced through on goal but sliced his one-on-one effort wide.
It meant the teams were left to draw 0-0 for the second time in as many weeks, keeping Barnstaple five point clear at the top. Welton have been replaced in second place by Cribbs.
