Barnstaple Town won 3-0 against Chippenham Park in the Toolstation Western League First Division.
Dave Pearse, Jack Jenkins and Ryan Turner grabbed the goals meaning a win for Barnstaple against the division’s bottom side, Portishead United, on Tuesday night will move them back to the top of the table.
The score was set at 0-0 after 45 minutes as Barnstaple switched back to a 4-4-2 formation with the absence of Josh Phillips, who suffered two cracked ribs in last week’s 7-0 win over Calne Town.
Town looked solid at the back yet created little going forward before they sparked into life in the second period.
Jenkins chipped a neat ball into the path of Aaron Harper-Penman before the centre back nodded the ball into the box where Nicholls was on-hand to tuck the ball away and make it 1-0.
Chances kept coming as Dave Pearse joined the game from the bench and immediately made his impact, playing in Turner to make it 2-0.
Jed Harper-Penman nutmegged his opposition before flying down the wing and finding Jenkins on the edge of the box to finish the game off.
The result takes Barnstaple’s unbeaten league run to 30 games with a record of five consecutive clean sheets.
