JAMES Mayne and Lee Francis scored their first goals of the season to give Barnstaple Town a fifth straight win in the Toolstation Western League.
They had to wait almost an hour to find the net but Barnstaple completed a 2-0 victory at Bridport.
They have scored 18 goals and conceded just two in the five-game winning run which has taken them to fourth place in the Premier Division table – three points behind leaders Bristol Manor Farm with three games in hand.
Returning to the scene of their defeat to Willand Rovers in the Les Phillips Cup final in May, Barnstaple went toe-to-toe with a physical home side, working hard to secure a fourth consecutive clean sheet in the league. It was Bridport’s first home defeat of the season and the first time they had failed to score.
In-form strikers Ryan Turner and Dave Pearse drew a rare blank but Barnstaple found goals from elsewhere.
Mayne headed into the top corner after fellow centre-back Aaron Harper-Penman had nodded a Steve Holland corner across goal in the 54th minute.
Six minutes from time, Francis beat an opponent and unleashed an early shot which gave the goalkeeper no chance.
