BARNSTAPLE Town made it through to the second round of the Les Phillips Cup in emphatic style today as they beat Roman Glass St George 6-0.
Town, who made it all the way to the final last season before losing 3-0 to Willand Rovers, will be looking to go one better this time.
Goals from Niall Heeney, Dave Pearse (two), Jed Harper-Penman, Lee Frances and Aaron Harper-Penman suggested they could go all the way.
The last three meetings between the pair had resulted in three wins for Barnstaple, of the Toolstation Western League Premier Division, and yielded 18 goals for and four against.
However, with Heeney’s penalty the only goal separating the two at the break, it looked like a low-scoring affair could be on the cards.
But Barum’s class told against the First Division outfit as Pearse, a half-time substitute, bagged a brace before Francis and both Jed and Aaron Harper-Penman got on the scoresheet to add gloss to a dominant performance.
The result means Barry Yeo’s men have won eight games in a row – with seven clean sheets on the spin.
