BARNSTAPLE Town have been drawn against a high-flying Toolstation Western League First Division side in the second round of the FA Vase.
They will travel to Bristol on Saturday, November 21, to play Hengrove Athletic who are in second place with nine wins from 15 games.
But Barnstaple, sixth in the Premier Division, will be confident of progressing against a team they beat twice – 2-1 at home and 4-0 away – on the way to promotion last season.
Hengrove won 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw at Gillingham Town in their first-round tie on Saturday.
Barnstaple progressed with a 3-1 win away to Horndean where Dave Pearse scored a hat-trick to reach 10 goals in all competitions this season.
“I’m absolutely delighted,” said manager Barry Yeo. “Pearsey was fantastic with his goals and link-up play.”
Barnstaple’s eighth win in nine games came against a Horndean team who have a 100% record from six home games in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division.
“It was a really good result,” said Yeo.
“We had never been here before and it’s a tough place to come.
“The pitch is on a hell of a slope and I can see why they do well there.
“We’re delighted to be in the next round.”
Barnstaple’s league game at Bitton, scheduled for November 21, will now be played on Tuesday, December 15.
