A BRACE from Steve Murray inflicted Barnstaple Town’s third defeat in four Toolstation Western League Premier Division games at Street tonight.
Murray scored twice in the first half to earn a 2-1 win for his side – who were on the back foot for most of the game – and seal the double over Barnstaple, after a 1-0 victory at Mill Road on September 1.
Barnstaple, who couldn’t build on Saturday’s impressive 2-0 win over Bitton, equalised midway through the first half thanks to Ryan Turner’s header.
That goal cancelled out Murray’s opener from the penalty spot after 15 minutes.
However Street’s lead was re-established four minutes before the break and it was that man Murray again as he slotted home after latching on to Lucas Ward’s through ball.
Barry Yeo’s men threw everything at their opponents in the second half, Jack Jenkins hit the bar and they had two penalty shouts when both Steve Holland and James Mayne went down in the box.
But Barum couldn’t break through and Street dug in to take the three points, which sees them leapfrog Barum to fourth in the table.
