Barnstaple Town beat Brislington for sixth Toolstation Western League win in a row

KYLE Paine’s first goal for Barnstaple Town gave them a sixth win in a row in the Toolstation Western League tonight.

The substitute’s strike on 87 minutes was the difference in a 3-2 victory at Brislington which lifted the visitors to third place in the Premier Division.

Paine was joined on the bench by fellow Torridgeside player Ian Cockwill as Barnstaple travelled without James Mayne, Jack Jenkins and Steve Holland.

With top scorer Ryan Turner only fit enough to be a substitute after injuring a hamstring in last week’s win against Bridport, Will Nicholls started up front.

He went close with a header before giving Town the lead on 33 minutes with a free-kick which went under the wall.

Brislington equalised just before half-time, only for Barnstaple to back in front 10 minutes into the second half when Niall Heeney – again playing out of position at centre-back – went forward to bury a header.

The Brislington keeper made a double save from Shaun Copp and Aaron Harper-Penman but he could not deny Paine who was set up by Liam Gregory eight minutes after going on for Nicholls.

Brislington quickly struck back but Barnstaple held on to extend their winning streak and move within two points of second-placed Bristol Manor Farm with two games in hand.
