BARNSTAPLE Town earned their first away win of 2016 as they beat Clevedon Town 2-0 today.
Barum went into the game without a victory on their travels since a 3-2 success at Bradford Town on November 28, but from the moment Sam Groves put into his own net after three minutes, the points always looked like coming back to North Devon.
It is the third game in a row Barnstaple have won 2-0, following outings against Willand Rovers and Brislington, and will please manager Barry Yeo who said he wanted his side to build on those performances.
Despite the early goal, Barnstaple failed to make the game safe until Jack Jenkins popped up with his fourth goal of the season with 10 minutes remaining.
The result lifts Town one place to sixth and cut the gap behind leaders Odd Down – who lost at home to Gillingham Town – to 10 points, with a game in hand.
It also means Barnstaple are now unbeaten in their last four league games and have only been defeated once since January 23.
They are at home on Tuesday evening against 12th-placed Bridport.
