BARNSTAPLE Town have added to their firepower with a striker who once “absolutely battered” their defence.
Willand Rovers frontman James Blake is the second summer signing to arrive at Mill Road, following former Paulton Rovers defender Craig Allan.
Manager Barry Yeo is well aware of the threat Blake can cause backlines, having seen him score twice in Willand’s Les Phillips Cup final win against Barnstaple in 2015.
After telling his rearguard how Blake tore them apart in that match, the striker was hardly given a sniff in the three meetings between the two in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division this season.
Blake notched 20 goals in 38 games for Willand this season as they finished sixth, 15 points behind Barum.
The striker will be competing for a place alongside Ryan Turner, Dave Pearse, Will Nicholls and Scott Sharpe.
