BARNSTAPLE Town booked their spot in the FA Cup first round qualifying after a dominant win at Clevedon Town today.

Scott Sharp may have scored the only goal of the game as Barum ran out 1-0 winners, but the visitors were in full control throughout against their Toolstation Western League opponents.

Having beaten Clevedon 4-0 and 2-0 on their way to Evo-Stik League Southern promotion last season, Barry Yeo’s side would have been confident of making it to the next stage of the famous trophy.

They started on the front foot, Aaron Harper-Penman heading just over before they were given the chance to take the lead from the spot.

Jack Jenkins stepped up, but his penalty hit the post and the rebound was well kept out.

But the visitors didn’t let the penalty miss hinder them, Sharp pounced a minute before the break to put Barnstaple 1-0 up.

The pressure continued in the second half as James Blake went close, Craig Allan headed wide and Blake had an effort ruled out for offside.

But one goal was all it took to send Barnstaple into the first round qualifying where they will face Merthyr Town.
