Bideford and Barnstaple Town to meet in Southern League Challenge Cup

NORTH Devon rivals Bideford and Barnstaple Town have been drawn against each other in the Southern League Challenge Cup.

The Division One South and West sides will meet in the second round at Bideford’s Sports Ground.

The cup tie is likely to be played on Monday, November 7.

Bideford booked their place in the second round with a 4-0 win at home against Taunton Town on Monday with goals from Dan Western, Billy Tucker (two) and Nick Barker. Barnstaple and Tiverton Town drew 1-1 in 90 minutes at Mill Road on Tuesday before the hosts triumphed 4-1 in a penalty shoot-out.

Bideford and Barnstaple have already met in the league this season when the Robins came from behind to win 2-1 at home on August Bank Holiday Monday.

Almost 900 spectators watched Liam Gregory give Barnstaple the lead on 15 minutes before second-half goals from Sean Downing and substitute Western turned the game around.
