YATE Town held on under second-half pressure to claim a 1-0 win against Barnstaple Town.
Harvey Baker’s goal condemned Barnstaple to a third straight defeat in Evo-Stik League Southern and lifted Yate above them in the Division One South and West table.
With only one win in eight matches, Barum are in the bottom four ahead of Tuesday night’s home game against Taunton Town.
Jack Jenkins and Ryan Turner both forced saves from the Yate keeper in the first half.
But after Barnstaple skipper Aaron Harper-Penman was forced off injured, the tide turned Yate’s way.
The goal came in a 31st-minute scramble as new signing Jack Camm drew a save from Steve Oliver but the ball broke for Baker to score.
Yate might have had a second five minutes later but this time the goal was ruled out for offside.
Lee Francis, Craig Allan and Jenkins all went close for Barnstaple in the second half. They pressed hard in the final moments but could not find a way through.
