BARNSTAPLE Town made it two wins from their opening two Toolstation Western League Premier Division games with an emphatic 4-0 win over Willand Rovers.
Newly promoted Town had previously lost 3-0 to Willand when the two sides met in the Les Phillips Cup final in May but goals from Jed Harper-Penman, Jack Jenkins, Dave Pearse and Will Nicholls ensured a contrasting result.
“We played very well and looked in great shape,” said Barnstaple Town manager Barry Yeo.
“It was another performance based on discipline and keeping our shape, which made it comfortable in the end.
“Not many teams go Willand away and win 4-0. On our day we can beat any side and the attitude of the players was perfect.”
Jed Harper-Penman struck the opener from the spot to keep his seasons tally flowing with two from as many games.
Lee Francis’s in-swinging corner was nodded back by Aaron Harper-Penman where Jack Jenkins was on-hand to stroke the ball home and give Barnstaple a 2-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, Town continued to dominate with Niall Heeney putting in another quality shift in the heart of midfield.
“Heeney was first class,” said Yeo.
“He acted as a pivot in the middle of midfield and everything fell to him. He had a huge impact.”
A whipped deliver from Liam Gregory saw Dave Pearse with room to fire home the third from inside the box while Will Nicholls joined the game late on to make it 4-0 with a header at the back post.
The two teams will meet again at Mill Road on Saturday in the extra preliminary round of the Emirates FA Cup, a cup Yeo is determined to excel in.
He said: “We want to do well in the cup.
“We know it’s not going to be a case of going out there and winning 4-0 again but we are looking forward to it.”
