GOALS from Ryan Turner and Dave Pearse in an eight-minute first-half spell gave Barnstaple Town a 2-0 win over Sherborne Town in the Toolstation Western League.
They were frustrated in the second half by 10-man Sherborne who had Ben Cochrane sent off shortly before half-time and saved a penalty from the home side.
But Barnstaple will be satisfied with a second win in a row at Mill Road which has lifted them to fifth place in the Premier Division, nine points off the top with three games in hand.
Turner put Barum ahead on the half hour when he rounded the keeper for his fifth league goal of the season.
Strike partner Pearse double the lead on 38 minutes when he latched on to a through-ball and finished well.
Cochrane was red-carded for a last-man foul but Barnstaple could not double the punishment as Jamie Beal saved Jed Harper-Penman’s penalty.
Sherborne’s Pete Ireland had a goal ruled out for offside and Steve Burton hit the crossbar but there was no denying Barnstaple who visit Ivybridge Town in second round qualifying for the FA Vase next Saturday.
