Barnstaple Town beat Horndean in FA Vase with Dave Pearse hat-trick

DAVE Pearse’s hat-trick took Barnstaple Town into the second round of the FA Vase.

The striker scored all their goals in a 3-1 away to Horndean this afternoon.

It was Barnstaple’s fifth straight win in all competitions and came against a side who have a 100% home record in the Wessex League.

Barum continued the form that has taken them into the top six in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division, making the four-and-a-half-hour journey to the south coast worthwhile.

hey fell behind, conceding for the first time since the 2-0 defeat to Buckland Athletic in the county cup on October 6, but Pearse equalised when he got to a right-wing cross ahead of strike partner Ryan Turner.

Horndean had a player sent off for a last-man foul and Pearse put Barnstaple ahead just before half-time, smashing the ball in after a great first touch.

The third came midway through the second half, Pearce finishing at the back post from a Liam Gregory cross to complete his second hat-trick for Barnstaple.

Today’s win gives Barnstaple £900 in prize money and a place in Monday lunchtime’s second-round draw.
