Barnstaple Town held at Sherborne Town in Toolstation Western League game
Barum went into the game having picked up just one win since the turn of the year – a 2-0 success over Bitton on January 30 – and looking to put last weekend’s Les Phillips Cup defeat to Keynsham Town firmly behind them.
But they failed to take maximum points back to North Devon as James Mayne’s goal secured a 1-1 draw this afternoon.
Eager to not suffer their fourth Toolstation Western League Premier Division loss in five games, Barry Yeo’s men were up against it as they found themselves a goal down early on.
Harry Montacute set up Luke Winsper to hit home a volley and open the scoring.
But Yeo would have been pleased with what he saw from his side as they didn’t hang around in responding – Mayne popping up with a rare goal to send the sides in level at the break.
There were no more goals in the second half as Barnstaple took a point which keeps them in seventh place – now 13 points behind leaders Odd Down.
Town will be looking to secure a much-needed win on Tuesday when they welcome second-placed Willand Rovers to Mill Road.
