Barnstaple Town 1-0 Torpoint Athletic

BARNSTAPLE Town and Bideford kicked off their pre-season friendly schedules with victories last night.

The two Southern League clubs – who will play each other in Division One South and West next season – were back in action after eight weeks off the field.

Barnstaple Town 1-0 Torpoint Athletic

Barum started against South West Peninsula League side Torpoint Athletic and a solitary second-half strike from Dave Pearse was enough to secure a 1-0 win and a good workout.

Pearse netted after 58 minutes – four minutes after coming on – as new signing James Blake held the ball up well for Jed Harper-Penman to feed Pearse into the box to apply the finish.

Blake wasn’t the only new signing on display at Mill Road, defender Craig Allan played most of the game and looked solid alongside regulars James Mayne and Aaron Harper-Penman.

Scott Sharp lived up to his name and looked lively before being replaced by Pearse. He headed just wide in the first period following great work by Liam Gregory.
