Pre-season friendlies: Bideford beat Exeter City and Barnstaple Town defeat Willand Rovers Read

BIDEFORD stretched their unbeaten record in pre-season to five matches while Barnstaple Town picked up a second win in their latest outings.

A young Exeter City XI visited the Sports Ground on Friday evening and Bideford claimed a 2-1 victory.

Sean Downing, continuing his successful return from injury, gave the Robins a half-time lead with a header.

Kevin Squire’s volley made it 2-0 in the second half before Exeter pulled a goal back.

New signing James Blake scored twice in two minutes against his former club as Barnstaple beat Willand Rovers 4-1 at Mill Road yesterday.

After his quickfire double put Town 2-0 up at half-time, the striker was replaced by Dave Pearse who scored twice himself in the second half to complete the win.

Both teams are on the road on Tuesday evening with Bideford visiting Buckland Athletic (7.30pm) and Barnstaple playing away to Cullompton Rangers (7.45pm).

Bideford have added a further fixture to their programme, at home against Tavistock on Monday, August 1 (7.30pm).
