TRIBUTES have been paid to former Barnstaple Town manager Jeff Evans, following his death.
Evans was at the helm at Mill Road from 2002 to 2006.
He joined Barum from Torrington and guided them to safety from the foot of the table in his first season.
Evans spent the next three years at Town, achieving mid-table finishes.
Most of his career was spent as a manager, but Evans did play for Bristol Rovers before going on to take charge of Bath City, Forest Green Rovers, Mangotsfield United and Chippenham Town.
He was also manager of the Devon side for four years and led them to a South West Counties Championship in 2004.
Barnstaple captain Aaron Harper-Penman tweeted: “RIP Jeff Evans.
“My first Barnstaple Town manager. Was a pleasure to have him as a manager and a friend #legend”
Current boss Barry Yeo also took to social media to express his sadness.
“Absolutely gutted and saddened after being told that a really close friend of mine (Jeff Evans) passed away last night,” he said.
“What a man.”
