SCOTT Sharp’s first Southern League goal earned Barnstaple Town a valuable point at fellow strugglers AFC Totton this afternoon.
The substitute struck 15 minutes from time to cancel out Charlie Gunson’s first-half opener.
The 1-1 draw keeps Barnstaple three points clear of the bottom three in Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South and West and extends their unbeaten run in all competitions to three matches.
Totton needed goalkeeper Charlie Searle to make a save from Ross Middleton before having a goal from Nathaniel Sherborne ruled out for a foul.
There was no denying the hosts in the 28th minute when Gunson headed in at a corner.
Searle made another good save in a goalmouth scramble around the hour mark, after which Sharp was sent on up front for Kyle Paine.
The striker’s only previous goal this season came in the FA Cup, but he opened his league account in the 75th minute with a header from Liam Gregory’s corner.
Totton came straight back with Connor York hitting the bar but Barnstaple ensured they would head back to North Devon with a point.
