Barnstaple Town 0 – 1 Shaftesbury

Barnstaple Town 0 Shaftesbury 1

A disappointing result for Barnstaple against Step 5 opposition sees them  bow out in their first game in this season’s competition.

Shaftesbury were the better side in the early stages and hit the post in the first two minutes with an effort from Taoufik Ben- Salem, Barnstaple found the pace of Ben-Salem and Nathan Connelly difficult to handle and it was Connelly who crossed for Josh Williams  to open the scoring on 40 mins.

Barnstaple came out with more purpose in the second half with Jonny Hill in the Shaftesbury goal keeping out efforts from Hopcroft on two occasions, and Jack Jenkins as Barnstaple went searching for a route back into the Cup Tie.

Hill was finally beaten in injury time but Elliott Whitecross’s effort was cleared off the line by substitute Sam Smith.

Before the game their was a minutes silence for former treasurer Linda Wellstead for passed away earlier in the week.

STAR MAN – Jonny Hill – Shaftesbury.
