Player/Staff Update

Barnstaple Town Football Club would like to take this opportunity, now the busy festive period is over, to update supporters on incoming players/staff.

As we know, Aaron Harper-Penman was appointed as our new manager, and his first signing was younger brother Jed Harper-Penman. Here is a look at some other players/staff joining them.

Steven Oliver

Steve has returned to Barum for another spell with us, he has plenty of experience at Southern League level, and he was our number one during our first season in the Southern League in 2016/17, before signing for Bideford AFC, where he remained until very recently, he joins us after a brief spell with Bridgwater Town in the Western Premier League.

Welcome back Steve.

Scott Sharp

Another former player making his return to the club. Scott is a well liked player among the Barum faithful, he’s a striker with flair who is probably best known for his ‘top knot goals’. Since leaving Barum after the 2016/17 season Scott has juggled a busy work schedule with scoring plenty a goal for Boca Seniors in the North Devon Premier League.

Welcome back Scott.

Brodie Montague

Brodie is a 21 year old striker/centre back from Ilfracombe, he has been signed on with us since the beginning of the season and has featured in pre-season for us, and also two league games. Brodie has been a first team regular for Ilfracombe Town for several years, making an estimated 150 appearances, scoring an estimated 100 goals. Brodie has now committed to Barum under the leadership of our new manager. Brodie is sure to have a bright future in the game.

Welcome Brodie.

Josh Pearce

Josh Pearce has been selected as Assistant Manager. Josh was previously the 2nd team manager for Boca Seniors Football Club, and before that he has been the manager of Landkey Town, and Sporting Barum, who under his leadership went two whole seasons unbeaten in the North Devon League. As a player Josh has represented Barnstaple Town in the Western League and Barnstaple reserves in the Devon & Exeter League, he has also played for clubs in the South West Peninsular League and the North Devon League.

He is currently a lead coach at the Chivenor Soccer School, where he has been coaching for 10 years. Josh is currently studying for his UEFA B coaching licence. He promises to be a very useful addition to the coaching/management team.

Welcome Josh.

Stuart Bown

Stuart moved to North Devon from Derby when his work brought him to the area. He started coaching with SAS Football Club, which is a well established youth Football Club in the area, as well as managing the 29 Commandos Devon Wednesday League’s team and guiding ‘The Gunners’ to 2nd in the League and winning the Thomas Westacott Cup. He then approached the Royal Logistics Corp and took up the role of Goalkeeper coach, a role he still fulfils to this day.

Stuart was asked to become the British Army U23 kitman, while attending the development week he took up the role of Goalkeeper coach, and at that point the head coach took him to Tooting & Mitcham Football Club as the first team Goalkeeping coach. During the staff reshuffle he stayed on and tried to help Tooting remain In the Bostik Premier league. As with Barum it came down to the last game of the season last season. One team stayed up and one went down, Tooting being the unfortunate ones. All while doing that he completed his FA level 1 and 2 In outfield players and goalkeeping.

An opportunity then arose for him to attain his UEFA B qualification this season 18/19. In order to compete this you need to be working in an 11 v 11 environment. During the summer he approached the management and chairman at our club and explained his situation, and we are delighted to have Stuart on board as part of our coaching team.

Keep up the good work Stuart.
